Whether you're a complete beginner, haven't moved much in a while, or are feeling creatively stuck, this is your chance to let loose and explore the joy of movement.

Recess invites beginners, deconditioned individuals, and creatively-blocked movers to explore natural movement fundamentals through playful skill practice and connection-building activities. This workshop aims to reignite the joy of movement and foster connection with oneself, others, and the environment. All levels welcome!

    Who is this for?

Beginners: No prior experience necessary! This workshop is designed for anyone who wants to start moving their body in a fun and supportive environment.

Deconditioned folks: We all get busy sometimes, and it's easy to let our fitness slide. This workshop is a gentle way to get back into moving without feeling overwhelmed.

Connect with ourselves, each other, and our environment: Through movement games and exercises, we'll explore how our bodies interact with the world around us and build connections with ourselves and others.

Have fun! This is the most important part.

    Shelby Copeland

Shelby Copeland began competing in Ninja Warrior in 2019 as a way to develop strength after having her daughter. Though training hard physically, she was crushed by a season of chronic pain and in 2020, was diagnosed with a chronic illness. As she continued on her movement journey, she found MovNat and appreciated how it helped her heal and address strength and mobility gaps. She is hopeful and encouraged by the resilience of the human body and mind.

In September 2023, Shelby is the 8th woman to achieve MovNat L3 certification. She feels all her greatest athletic accomplishments have been on the other side of injury, diagnosis, and postpartum setbacks.

Having taught Ninja Warrior for some time, she now teaches around town in conjunction with numerous community partners, hosts pop up play-based classes monthly called “Adult Recess,” and runs parkour classes for 50+ folks. She is most interested in working with postpartum people, people who want to age adventurously, folks who are trying to get out of pain, and children.
